Wednesday, 20 September 2017: After a stunning BMW Championship win, in-form Australian golfer Marc Leishman has given himself a chance of bagging a $US10 million FedEx Cup payday.

Marc Leishman has revealed countryman Adam Scott and England veteran Justin Rose as the inspiration behind his breakout 2017 US PGA Tour season.

The 33-year-old Australian bagged a wire-to-wire victory at the elite 70-man BMW Championship on Sunday, ensuring he has a red-hot chance at claiming the $US10 million ($17m) FedEx Cup bonus at the Tour Championship this week.

His stellar year also includes a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and a third-place result among seven top-10 finishes en route to hitting a career-high world ranking of No.15.

Leishman says the motivation to hit his straps by his early 30s came from watching good mate Scott claim his maiden major title at the 2013 Masters at the age of 32.

Rose, the same age, captured the US Open two months later.

"I heard Rosey and Scotty talking in the media, saying, 'This is our time' when they were getting to their early 30s. I'm 33 and not going to be out here forever, so I needed to start making hay while the sun shines," Leishman told AAP.

Now ranked in the top-five seeds who are guaranteed a $10 million payday by winning the Tour Championship finale in Atlanta, Leishman knows the stakes are high.

But he believes a sleepless night caused by the nerves of a five-shot 54-hole lead at the BMW has him battle-hardened for a big week at East Lake Golf Club.

"I've had big leads before, but never in the FedEx Cup play-offs and I've never struggled to sleep like that," Leishman said.

"But it was actually a cool feeling to experience nerves like that and once I was on the course I was fine."

The Victorian native claims his win vanquished the demons of a back-nine collapse at TPC Boston two weeks ago, where he surrendered the 54-hole lead to world No.4 Justin Thomas in the second play-offs event.

In his first visit to the 30-man Tour Championship since 2009, Leishman feels ready to take on FedEx leader Jordan Spieth and fellow seeds Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm.

"My game feels good, and everything is shaping up for another good week, hopefully," said Leishman.

"There's certainly no reason why I can't. There are 30 guys here and one of has to win the FedEx Cup."
