Ex-AFL player Eustice leaves anti-ice role

Friday, 15 September 2017:

Former AFL player Mark Eustice, who publicly shared his battle with addiction and mental illness, is stepping down from his anti-ice campaign role.

The former Essendon player has decided to step down from his ambassador role for the Australian Anti Ice Campaign.

"I believe it best for me to leave that campaign in the hands of others and get back to working directly in the delivery of programs to help those who have been suffering from mental illness and addiction as a whole," Eustice said in a statement on Friday.

Eustice, who also played for Richmond and Sydney, has supported the work of the AAIC for the past three months.

He will continue to help those who "fall prey" to both addiction and mental illness with further announcements to come, the statement said.

Earlier this year, the retired player opened up about his battle with drugs, alcohol and his struggles with depression and bi-polar syndrome.
