Friday, 8 September 2017: Below is the race by race analysis looking at the full Singapore card on Friday the 8th of September, with selections and information on the main contenders.

RACE 1
Another Class 5 race that looks relatively open but surely CASTLE QUEEN (2) deserves a winning turn. This mare continues to race well and is always supported in the market. She has come up very close in her last three runs carrying big weights like 59kgs last time, for this race she drops 2kgs. GOLDEN MILE (3) arrives back into Class 5 racing with a weight of 57kgs and senior jockey Michael Rodd. In Class 4 races he had been racing well enough but the drop back in class means he is a danger. Stablemate HOT GOLD (7) for Cliff Brown put in a much better performance last time out behind Arr Flair with Matthew Poon in the saddle. BARNBURGH LAD (10) keeps on doing enough to keep you interested but hasn’t been able to quite find the lead recently and usually when he is able to lead that’s when he performs at his absolute best.

RACE 2
Plenty in this with exposed form and a couple of newcomers added into the mix for good measure. DISCRETELY RED (1) for Singapore's leading trainer Mark Walker would be one of the leading chances in this race after his last start performance to be only the second quickest sectional (24.54) behind that of the winner. O'REILLY STAR (2) was the beaten favourite in his last two runs and last start was caught wide but was seen making a little ground at the end of the race. A newcomer by the name of AROUND THE WORLD (7) for David Hill has had one trial in Singapore and it was a winning effort in 61.01. He had also won/placed in a couple of trials in New Zealand and is related to a couple of horses who have won in Hong Kong. ONLY WIN (8) really charged home at a huge price behind a really nice type and was only beaten half a length in 23.38 which was clearly the best closing sectional. A similar performance would see the David Kok-trained galloper go close in this line-up.

RACE 3
Not the easiest race to try and find the winner of, with only two horses having won within their last five runs. But LIM’S ARCHER (3) does at least come into the contest on the back of a very respectable run last time when 2nd to a very nice type of Mark Walker’s, Boa Shan Magic over 1200m last month. Now with his forth trainer since early June! (Cliff Brown, Steven Burridge, Laurie Laxon and now Lee Freedman) he will unsure some of the pace in the race and stepping back up in distance will suit this 5yo and has every chance of recording victory number three of his career, though the wide draw is not ideal. The Daniel Meagher-trained OLIVER (4) also finished 2nd last time out to the progressive Situation (winner again since) and drops down in trip here. Better suited to the mile, he can be a hard horse to catch right from time to time but with a large chunk of the field slightly out of sorts, he can go close in this. SACRED SURFER (5) is going up in trip here and will sport blinkers first time with the year's leading jockey taking over in the saddle. He can improve upon his last start performance. The placings are completed by STORM TROOPER (1) who has a lot of decent Class 4 form to his name and is dropping back into this company having struggled in a couple of better races recently.

RACE 4
Interesting race to try and work out as there are horses in form, but some well and truly out of form. ALFONSO (1) for Lee Freedman has been solid in his last two efforts for 2nd placings. We shouldn’t be too worried about the weight because he has carried the 58.5kgs to victory in the past in this grade/distance; however it was on the turf. PERKINS (2) has been good enough to win in two of his last three races including last start when beating home race rival Alfonso but the big weight of 58.5kgs must be the concern considering he carried 6kgs less in his last run. KEY ON KODIAC (6) went his best race last start ever since he crossed the line first but the race was then declared void. Keep an eye on him because he seems to be gradually improving. Of the rest maybe DRAGON (8) is one you need to have included for the first four; however he is hard to follow but he put in an okay effort in a similar race last start and has the services of Olivier Placais.

RACE 5
Even looking line-up for this race on the Polytrack over 1100m. CAIRO (1) ran third behind Kratos, (who has since won again), in his first race back for 2017 with 58.5kgs which is never an easy task fresh up. He looked and raced well and looks to have trained on nicely since then as he was able to win a trial by 5L over Mr Scorsese. GREY FALCON (2) came out for his usual honest effort last time to run 2nd for the sixth time in his career. He has only ever been unplaced on four occasions from his 17 starts. Lately he has been sitting third in the running and not the usual front running display we had been accustomed to earlier on in his career. ON ELECTRIC AVENUE (5) a last start winner in the Open Maiden grade and closed off really nicely for the fastest sectional time of 23.62, it's never easy to go from being a maiden straight into Class 4 but he is definitely a top four player. DECRETO (7) steps out after winning a trial pretty smartly by 3.3L in 60.59 but his racing manners look like they really have taken a turn for the better because he wasn’t the easiest of rides, one to certainly watch especially with the blinkers going on for the first time and also the pacifiers.

RACE 6
JOYOUS (4) has not saluted for a year. Recent runs had not been without merit. Can bounce back to form, especially from his low draw. CAVATINA (1) loomed as a chance last time out but ran out of puff late. Back on the same trip and takes on slightly easier bunch. Worth some thought in spite of awkward alley. DRAGON RUBY (9) does not win often but he has been making good ground at his recent runs. Good gate. Not out of this. WALTERS BAY (8) showed vast improvement at his last run. Only query is the outermost alley but as he is a horse who gets back, he can still make his presence felt at the business end.

RACE 7
A really handy line-up faces the starter in this race with some horses who are in very good form and that means there are plenty of chances. ARAMCO (2) is one of those who finished 3rd in the G3 Garden City Trophy at his last start, he has since trialled very nicely for 2nd placing last week in 59.76. The winner of three from eight starts is having only his second run over 1400m. CLARTON SUPER (4) from the David Hill stable is a three-race winner from five starts and he has had the benefit of a slight freshen-up and a trial leading into this race, he looks to be a progressive horse with a nice weight. ECLIPSE SPLASH (5) showed he is real quality last start by dethroning Chopin's Fantaisie, he rises in class but has the advantage of a weight where he should be more than competitive and if he can run the race to suit he will be extremely dangerous. LIM'S SHOT (6) fought hard for his 2nd placing last start behind Caorunn when he carried 58kgs, dropping 4kgs for this assignment looks to be a real luxury.

RACE 8
-A race that features four last-start winners and two last-start placegetters on the Polytrack. ETTIJAH (1) is one of those last-start winners for trainer Ricardo Le Grange. He carries a 3kg penalty for the victory which came in this grade and over this distance. SOUTHERN SPUR (2) comes out of a Novice race but was competitive two starts ago when placed 2nd but is reverting back to the Polytrack for this contest. SIAM SAPPHIRE (3) is another last start course/grade/distance winner in this line up. He won with 54kgs last start and cops a 3kg penalty here but has been building and potentially looks to be a horse still on the up. STAR INVINCIBLE (6) for trainer KY Young who is still searching for his first winner gets his opportunity with a 1kg claim from Troy See, a horse that hasn’t been far away in his last few efforts.

RACE 9
This is a pretty competitive race to try and suss the winner out from but trainer Daniel Meagher looks to have a couple of nice chances with his two charges even though both of them missed in their last starts. First of them being RED CLAW (2) who is still yet to win after five runs in Singapore and was pretty poor last start in mid-June, however he has since had a freshen up and won his most recent trial of two in 60.86. It certainly may pay to keep an eye on what the market suggests about his chances. That also goes for SECRET WIN (3), who had been ultra-competitive up until last start where he never fired a shot, if you backed him last start, it would be probably wise to follow your money. ACE KING (5) the winner of 1 from 4 attempts has not been seen since earlier on in the year but with the benefit of three trials to see him for this assignment we should be expecting a forward showing from this horse out of the Ricardo Le Grange stable. BROTHER WIND (9) from the in-form Steven Burridge stable has been running well in recent starts, back to 53kgs for this race looks to be one of the big positives along with his two recent 2nd placings over this trip and in this grade.
