Daly Brothers Find The Magic

Monday, 4 September 2017: Exciting sprinter Vega Magic became the ninth West Australian trained or bred winner of the Memsie Stakes when he won the $1 million feature at Caulfield last Saturday.

Vega Magic , now with the Lindsay Park stable in Victoria, races for well-known WA brothers Wally and George Daly.
Wally Daly bred Vega Magic and was on hand at Caulfield on Saturday to watch his pride and joy win the Memsie while his brother George, formerly one of the best trainers in WA, is in ill-health and unable to travel.
Previously with Perth trainer Sean Casey, Vega Magic is three from three for the Lindsay Park stable, having won the G1 Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville in May and Listed Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield when resuming last month.

Vega Magic won two Group races in Perth – the AJ Scahill and Colonel Reeves – for Casey and has 12 wins and three placings from 17 starts for $2,026,550 in prizemoney.
Wally Daly said Casey deserved a lot of credit for Vega Magic’s success.
“George and I are indebted to Sean Casey for bringing the horse along the way he did. Sean took Vega Magic right through his grades and always believed in the horse.
“His faith was justified, that’s for sure.”
Vega Magic is by Shamardal’s French Derby winner Lope de Vega from the multiple winning Magic Albert mare Admirable, also bred and raced by the Dalys.
“George has always liked the Shamardals and that’s why we decided to send Admirable to Lope de Vega,” Daly explained.
“Lope de Vega was a very good racehorse and we basically supported the stallion for his four seasons in Australia, sending Admirable every year.
“George is a real student of Tesio – he’s read all the books – and just loves the Giant’s Causeway line. I’m more than happy to take his advice and it has certainly paid dividends with Vega Magic.
Lope De Vega is the sire of 24 stakes winners including four G1 winners – Vega Magic, Belardo, The Right Man and Jemayel.
“Vega Magic is from Lope de Vega’s first Australian book, while the next year we got a full sister in Vega Dior,” Daly said.
“She’s only had the two starts for Sean Casey but won her maiden first up and is showing some ability.
“We also have a 2YO full brother that’s being broken in and will be trained by Sean too.
“As for Admirable, we sent her to Shooting To Win last spring and she is due to foal. All things going well, Admirable will head to Exceed And Excel this spring.”
Vega Magic’s second dam Starglow Express (Danewin) is a winning half-sister to Listed Triscay Stakes placegetter Emerald Green (Green Line Express) and Listed-placed Suicide Blonde (Rory’s Jester).
Further back in Vega Magic’s pedigree is the 1979 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Century Miss (Century), herself the second dam of G3 winner November Flight (Flying Spur).
Century Miss is a daughter of Vega Magic’s fourth dam Gay Chorus (Matrice), who produced eight foals to race for seven winners.
