Thursday, 3 August 2017: Below is the race by race analysis looking at the full Singapore card on Friday the 4th of August, with selections and information on the main contenders.

Moritz Eclipse
Moritz Eclipse

RACE 1
Tricky race where the two best horses have drawn wide, Miss Waimataitai (5) and Barnburgh Lad (3). But as Miss Waimataitai can drop back and quicken home, she gets the nod. Her stablemate Best Jade (9) also has gate speed and being drawn inside Barnburgh Lad, he may go forward. Blinker-pacifiers off, tongue-tie on. Can hang on for a place. Nova Ranger (1) is dropping back in grade. Will find this easier. Include in calculations.
RACE 2
With four seconds in a row at his last four runs, Happy Baby (3) is long overdue for his maiden win. Trip suits and has drawn nicely. This time or never. Great Seven (4) is making slow headway. Will relish the extra 200m. Each-way chance. Super Ace (9) is at his first run for new yard. Did show early toe at previous runs and has drawn an alley. Blinkers off. Keep safe. Energizer (7) made some ground at his last outing, albeit without threatening the winner Marvel Hero. Will be Hong Kong apprentice jockey Matthew Poon’s first ride. Wide draw is a query, but is worth a place chance.
RACE 3
Quite a few chances here. Ancient Warrior (3) seems to handle Polytrack better these days but he won on turf, too. Lovely barrier. Commands respect. Newcomer Showar (2) has trialled well. Drawn off the track but can still come through if he shows early speed. Noted frontrunner Sun Empire (10) drops back in distance to six furlongs, but can still make all if he gets away with cheap sectionals. Lim’s Archer (5) is struggling to regain his form. Blinkers off, shadow roll on, and he has drawn an alley. Outside chance.
RACE 4
Country Boss (4) came close at his last two runs. Improving with every run. On his last-start closing second to Marvel Hero, he will be one of the leading favourites here. The blinkers should sharpen Galileo’s Approach (2) up. Marble one. Big say if he gets his own way in front. Keep an eye on Raptor (7). Made sound debut but last two starts had been a touch disappointing. Switch to turf and step-up in distance may turn him around. Elite Conqueror (1) was a bit tightened for room on debut. Blinkers come on. Give him another chance.
RACE 5
Small but competitive field. Got to stay with Arhat (1) even if he shoulders more weight. On the way he has trained on, he deserves consideration again. You cannot ignore Aotearoa (5). Lost no admirers for her flying second to the smart Chopin’s Fantaisie at her last outing. In the hunt for a long way. Last-start winner Makanani (3) has maintained her form. Trip is right up her alley. Darshini (2) powered home last time out but Arhat had already scored. Weights and measures against him, but on current form, he may still pinch a place.
RACE 6
There was plenty to like about the way The Dodger (6) flew home for a smack-up fourth last time out. Faces similar opposition. May just get there with a bit of luck. Pratt Street (2) unleashes a nice turn of foot once in a while. No worries about his awkward alley as he gets back, anyway. Run Cheetah Run (11) ran well at his last two starts. Low draw and seems to be back in form. Can spring a surprise. Hot Gold’s (1) form is so-so, but he should find this a lot easier. Can finish in the money.
RACE 7
Hard to beat Moritz Eclipse (1). Looks a cut above this. Gariza (2) has given some signs of potential at his three Kranji runs. Worth sticking with but his awkward alley does not help his clause. Shoot Up High (6) can mix his form, but at his best he can account for this bunch. Blinkers back on, shadow roll off. Drawn wide. Phidias (10) has not been finishing that far behind of late. Approaching best form and can be included in calculations from now on.
RACE 8
Even contest to wind up the night. Shaqraa (8) has stayed up to the mark after his maiden win three runs back. 1000m may be a bit sharp, but he can still strike if the pace is on. Unsurpassed (3) is in good nick. Well drawn. Should be thereabouts. Hoshiko (4) has been making good ground at his recent runs. Won’t surprise if he is prominent here. Stock Broker (2) is in his element in this type of race. Chances enhanced if he can dictate.
